Roman Fluegel And Ricardo Villalobos - RiRom Main

I listened to this when I was feeling a little bit down one night (stupid alcohol!) after being let down, and it picked me up, it is dreamy clicky piano-based minimal and a return to form for Ricardo, for my tastes anyway.

***

Previous track

Scuba – Never

The other side to a superb track, Adrenaline, this is a really nice floaty melodic kind of deep trance tune.  Something a little different.

Wham - Club Tropicana (Todd Terje Edit)

Well, it is the season to be jolly so I reckon I can get away with posting a disco edit of one of the best pop songs ever produced, if only because the video was filmed at a hotel in Ibiza - and for anyone who moans about the amount of pop stars, etc in Ibiza nowadays - a little delve into history and you will find the 1980's arguably more so.

Art Department – All Mine

I was hoping for an Art Department track that I wouldn’t list on my Top Tunes blog, but oh no, this is another cracker – you know the score by now, deep rumbling bass-lines, slow house feel with male vocals drawling on in a slightly depressive way.

Monday, 12 December 2011

Eleven Eleven - Tourist Trap (Jamie Jones Miss X Remix)

Guess what – a Jamie Jones remix that I love.  A little sinister with uncomprehendable robotic lyrics and a typical house groove, oh yeah I like this a lot.  Rumour that P Diddy has something to do with this too (ooh another reason for the haters!) but I have found no proof.

Stick it up your bum, anti-Jamie Jones snobs ;-)

Hatikvah - Big Mind

I wasn’t expecting something this good, it starts very spaced-out and kind of minimal, and doesn’t really grow much, random mumblings and a subtle bassline eventually develop.  Different, but very good.

Tuesday, 6 December 2011

Tanner Ross & Soul Clap - The Shady Shades

Very chunky beats with a kind of 80’s house feel, nice and slow – this would go off at somewhere like fabric.  Available on Wolf & Lamb.

No Regular Play – Lookin

Wow.  The rarest of things, I went all tingly upon hearing this tune for the first time – hasn’t happened in ages!

It starts off like most of the slower house tracks, nothing especially indistinhuishable but the vocals kick in, the piano starts and then this rumbling bass…ooh!

Monday, 28 November 2011

Avion - Damon Wild (88uw Remix)

Techno does come much tougher than this but for my standards this is tough techno, robust and uncompromising.

Perfect for a moody Monday :-)

Friday, 25 November 2011

Subb-an – Misleading

Really good chunky sounding house track with some fairly non-understandable vocals stretched across the track – Subb-an is definitely starting to become an artist to follow – another UK house producer.  What is in the water here?

Thursday, 17 November 2011

Lucky Paul - Thought We Were Alone (Money vs Gold Remix)

Amazing house track, full of emotion, melody, bass-line, male vocals, slightly slower bpm, breakdown with a let's go crazy re-start - just everything I love about music right now.

Definitely a shivers down the spine and oh just how much I would love to hear this on a dancefloor.

I know I love every tune on my top tunes blog, but this one is just super-loved.

Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar (Ricardo Villalobos Dub)

If you remember the good old trance days circa 1998 then the original is likely one of your favourite tracks of all time.  Mine too.

This is way too subtle for most people and I have heard so many people be very unpleasant about it.

But such is my obsession with Ricardo, of course it has to feature here.  It has taken more listens than probably any other track this year to fall in love with it, but fallen in love I have J

Just in case you are wondering on genre – it is minimal.

Wednesday, 9 November 2011

Miguel Campbell - Something Special

This is seemingly a massive tune at the moment, everyone seems to love it, quite a simple house tune with a lovely bassline and a girl singing “Something Special, Makes Me Want to Fuck” or so it sounds like.

Pretty sure either Danny Daze or Jamie Jones played it at fabric the other week, but don’t quote me…another example of why Leeds seems to be the centre of house music in the world right now.  And rather short at less than 5 minutes.

And it was actually played at Mango in little old Reading on Saturday!

Tuesday, 8 November 2011

Pillow Talk - The Come Back

This is a very distinctive track, slow disco-house but with a little bit of an r’n’b vocal to it, not a peak-time tune but a very nice tune, very very nice.

I have a feeling that we might hear a lot from Pillow Talk over the coming months.

Monday, 7 November 2011

No Regular Play - Lookin (Life And Death Remix)

Deep basslines, male vocals and a superb drop, I’m not sure if this kind of stuff is starting to become a little predictable but I am still liking it a lot.

Friday, 4 November 2011

Scuba - Adrenalin

Starts off as a house track but breaks down into a lovely floaty melodic moment or two, before building back up, house but with more than a hint of trance.

Wednesday, 2 November 2011

Maceo Plex - Can't Leave You

Yet another hot Maceo Plex track, this starts off with a really raw long rumbling dirty bassline, but it soon lifts up in melody...before breaking down for a repeat.

Lovely stuff.

Monday, 31 October 2011

Ricardo Villalobos & Los Updates – I Miss You So Much

This is just a simple minimal groove, a splendid 12 minutes long, and is just beauty in it's simplicity, so hypnotic that I have listened to it 5 times in a row now which is a good hour.

Not often you can keep playing the same song for an hour and still love it, but I guess that is the beauty of the simplicity...if only there was more good minimal being produced as so much of it is so bland and heartless at the moment.

Hot Natured – Assimilation

As played by Jamie Jones at fabric recently, this went down so well, it has that constant siren stabbing noise along with the usual deep dark disco house sound and the devastating bassline.  It sounds like a Securicor van reversing.

Thursday, 27 October 2011

Butch – Rawhide

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiioooooooooooooooooooooo

I heard Ricardo play this at Cocoon In The Park and I was like “what the f***”, I loved it!  Took me ages to work it out, and still there is only a set rip on Youtube for you to listen to.  It appears that it is only going to be released on vinyl, on Ricardo’s label Sei Es Drum.

It is the kind of track that I think a few people might hate but I just love it.

Wednesday, 26 October 2011

Pirupa - Raw Orbit

Ooh I really like this, it has a lot of synths going on, and a slightly electro feel to it though it is trying to be techno, I can think of quite a range of DJs who might play this at various times though it does say more ‘build up’ to me.

Monday, 24 October 2011

Noir & Haze - Around (Solomun Vox Mix)

As someone wrote on Youtube, “I've slept with the girl of my dreams last weekend but this sound is a way better.”!

This is, like, not sure how to describe it but I would just go crazy on the fabric dancefloor if I heard this, uncontrollably.

I have been looking for this for ages, it is a rather slow, sexy house track with bits of vocals and sounds going “dum, dum dum dum dum dum, dum, dum, dum dum” and a oh my god kind of bassline, and an amazing breakdown at around 5 minutes.  So so good, I could write much more about it.

James Blake - Limit To Your Love ' DB Edit'

This is a bit nice, a bit too nice maybe, a lovely piano melody with some snippets of vocals, oh it is house.

Monday, 17 October 2011

Traversable Wormhole – Where 2D Meets 3D (Chris Liebing Remix)

Winter must be approaching if I am starting to find my appreciation of techno once more, this is quite dark and slightly sinister though far from the hardest techno you will find – about as hard as I go.

Steffi – Yours

This is a bit of a grower, I always liked it but it has really grown on me, a really good quality vocal house groove.

Cassius - The Sound of Violence (Franco Cinelli Remix)

It might take a little while to get going but this is minimal at its best, a gentle beauty of a remix of a track you may recognise from the vocals, quite the gem – Ricardo played it at Cocoon In The Park and it was one of those moments.

Wednesday, 12 October 2011

Levon Vincent – Man Or Mistress

One of the techier tunes that Sven played at Cocoon at Amnesia a few weeks back, quite tough for my recent standards, the second Levon Vincent track I have featured recently.

Monday, 10 October 2011

A. Mochi - C2M (Gary Beck Remix)

This is pure techno brilliance.

Somebody played it in Ibiza (you might guess who it is), when I was at their very special night in a very special nightclub, and my dancing partners had decided to go see what was happening in the terrace, which was featuring Seth Troxler and Loco Dice if I recall correctly, but I just could not bear to leave the main room and I was rewarded with hearing this absolute belter.

It is quite fast-paced, constant, throbbing but very energetic and very uplifting...oh I can feel those ice cannons about to launch...woooooooossshhh!

Must pay a bit more attention to techno this winter I feel.

Mark E - Belvide Beat

This is sexy techno.

No messing around, straight in there with a devastatingly grungy bassline...I worked out what track it was last night, and decided that it needed to become my waking up track, I required it in my life asap.

If this doesn't wake you up in the morning and get you going, I don't know what will.

German factory engineering techno music at it's best...oh and yes, before you ask, I heard Sven play it in Ibiza.

Wednesday, 5 October 2011

Julio Bashmore - Batty Knee Dance

Kind of house music but with a definite garage influence which is very popular at the moment, Julio is fast becoming a producer to take notice of and I think there might be another track or two which I need to write about very soon!  Oh, it has a lovely fat bassline too.

Sadly I can only find a radio rip on Youtube, but it will do, you will be able to hear why I love it still, got that nice autumnal garage groove.

Tuesday, 4 October 2011

MANIK – Alwayz

It didn’t take long to realise I would love this, I am a big fan of Hot Creations.  Nice bassline, snippets of vocals, it just sounds very cool.

Sadly no Youtube video.  Oh well, MANIK, your loss, nobody will hear your track.

Monday, 3 October 2011

Petar Dundov - Sparkling Stars

What to make of this?  Anyone who knows Petar Dundov will recognise his distinctive sound.  Some kind of cross between techno, progressive house and trance, a very special track – another one at Cocoon In The Park, made me all emotional as I was walking out, in fact it drained me of what emotion I had left after that amazing 12 hour journey!

Thursday, 29 September 2011

Caribou – Sun

I didn’t think much of this when I first heard it but Sven played it at Cocoon In The Park to warm up, with the sun playing and it just worked perfectly.  A lively house tune with the word “sun” repeated and various synthy elements.

Only just discovered the artist and name.

Wednesday, 28 September 2011

Oliver $ - Doin' Ya Thang

Ghetto house music, asking what yo mutherfuckers wanna hear, the good shit or the other shit…you may well have heard it.  It is cool.

Tuesday, 27 September 2011

David August – True Romance

Firstly, massive apologies for the delay since the last time I posted a track, I have had other priorities recently and also my Ibiza trip took quite a bit of my time and planning (and perhaps recovering) but now I am back on the case.

I think that this is  the slowest track ever to be released on Cocoon?  I love this a lot, I think Seth played it at Cocoon In the Park but I could be wrong.  Someone did.  It has this low, slow bassline and then a long breakdown, quite minimal but quite sexy too which I am led to believe is a contradiction.

Wednesday, 10 August 2011

Matt John - Hello Again

First heard this by Sven at Cocoon In The Park, and it just stayed in my mind, it starts of going “ye hee, ye hee hee”, and then strange accordion style music over a simple house beat, with some crows and eventually breaks out into “hello, hello” – very catchy.

Tuesday, 9 August 2011

Laura Jones - Love In Me

Yes, it is garage, of the UK variety.  Some people say deep house but this is reminding me so much of 1997 – except for the lack of fake London gangster vocals, it is just a nice garage beat.  Don’t be scared, it fits perfectly into a deep house set.  A recommendation from The Shapeshifters!

Monday, 8 August 2011

Dan Ghenacia - Globe

This one has taken me a little while to work out.  First Dan Ghenacia track I have loved since Traffic Jam way back in 2006.

Clearly made for Cocoon in mind, swooshing and whoosing away with a few strange chirpy sounds and a really nice solid beat behind it.

Lovebirds – Want You In My Soul

It takes a while to build up, which is more than fine by me, before breaking out into a very warm vocal house tune, such a nice warm feeling to it.  Perhaps slightly in the bracket of funky house.  Definitely a repeat listen.

Friday, 5 August 2011

Voices of Black- Take Back Soho (Tanner Ross Remix)

Slow house music that makes me envisage all kinds of hot women surrounding me until 5 minutes and 9 seconds have passed when I open my eyes and realise I am in the office and work in a finance department.  Heard Soul Clap playing this.

Wednesday, 3 August 2011

Subb-an - Positive Expression

Dark, growling but slightly charming house track, nicely underground – none of these pop vocals!  And I love the artwork on the Youtube clip.

Tuesday, 2 August 2011

Djebali – Reputation

I like this a lot, just got a really good house groove going on with some lovely chirping chimes continuosly and very unusually for me – no vocals (well not noticeable anyway).

Art Department - We Call Love

This is unmistakably Art Department, with the slow house groove and almost a romantic tale, not quite so gothic, and still individual.  I continue to be very impressed with this production duo.

Octave One - I Believe (Sandwell District Remix)

I wanted to put this up ages ago but annoying it got taken down from Youtube as soon as I discovered it.  So listen whilst you get chance!

Suitably different from every over tune on my blog, this has these lovely swooshing trance melodies, with faint vocals, and yes it is trance.  Deep trance.  Don’t be scared…

Monday, 1 August 2011

Missy Elliot - Work it (Nicolas Jaar Rework)

Quite a unique track, it being a Nicolas Jaar remix, this should not at all be a surprise.

More hip-hop than house, and much slower than the vast majority of the music I love - many won't like probably because it is quite frankly just 'too cool'.

Sunday, 31 July 2011

Clockwork - It's You Again

This is one hot top tune, slightly spooky, rather dark house music with indecipherable chatting and a lovely bassline - it's all about the bassline nowadays.

Tiefschwarz - Home (Soul Clap's Aldie Street Remix)

Last top tune of July, I shall endeavour to put more up, I know I have been slack this month!

This is a really quite dark remix of a Tiefschwarz track with a lovely wobbly bassline to it, would love to hear this on a super soundsystem, like fabric's.

Thursday, 28 July 2011

Maceo Plex – Falling

Ignore the first few seconds of weirdness.  This is the fourth time I have featured this producer, 3 times as Maceo Plex and 1 as Maetrik – absolutely on fire this year, this reminds me more of the filtered French house of early 2000’s – a really good and very accessible feed-good track.

Modern Amusement - Real Love

Another house track with a devastating bassline, slightly spooky with rather high-pitched vocals like a very young woman on laughing gas, perhaps.

Luciano - Back To Front

Luciano is a bit hit and miss for me nowadays, I wouldn’t mind going to his night at Pacha, but the last time I saw him at fabric he was a little dull and commercial – this however is a very groovy 15-minute minimal track, really liking this.

Wednesday, 27 July 2011

Russ Yallop – The Crossroads

House music with a disco feel to it, quite a few good productions around from Russ Yallop with a distinctive feel good feel to them.  Think I first heard Jamie Jones playing it.

Maceo Plex - Ain't That Love

I think I do love everything that this guy does, I am increasingly featuring him, his prductions are just fantastic and another very good house track here.

Tuesday, 26 July 2011

Tale Of Us - Winds Of Change

Apologies for the lack of new top tunes during July.

I know that this is only the 4th - and I did 32 in June.  Very slack.  I am back on the case, just had a party break.

This is one of those tracks that I didn’t take to at first, Tale Of Us are talented producers from Italy, this has a slow almost haunted house sound to it and almost a touch of emotion.

Wednesday, 13 July 2011

Vapourspace - Gravitational Arch Of 10

Sven Vath played this as his opening tune of 2011 at Cocoon in Frankfurt.  It might make more sense if you watch the video rather than just listen to it - it just has this superb build-up.  I'll leave the rest as a surprise as this video is well worth watching, with the lights off and curtains closed.

Enjoy.

Oh, and yes, I bought the Vapourspace album on the back of this and it is about 18 years old.

Damn you, Sven. :-)

Ricardo Villalobos - MDMA

Ricardo played this at Cocoon In The Park on Saturday, and I love it when he plays one of his old classics as he usually does, and this was one of the best moments of the whole festival for me, and it was absolutely full of those moments.

And to think that it was released in 1996.  I never would have understood it then!!

I think that it might actually have been released under the name Richard Wolfsdorf and a vinyl copy of this EP goes for €250!  There is quite a bit of discussion on online forums about the exact name, but more importantly is that it is an absolutely amazing tune.

Tuesday, 5 July 2011

Tensnake - Something About You

A bit more commercially minded than most stuff I like, this has a cool 90’s house vibe going on and is definitely a feel good track.  Even on a Tuesday.

Thursday, 30 June 2011

Mario Vidis - Changed ft Ernesto (Soul Clap Remix)

Another slow, plodding but heart-warming remix from Soul Clap – I didn’t actually take to it on the first listen, but it was definitely worth another try, I think I might cry.

Soul Clap - Dreams

This is a re-edit of a Fleetwood Mac tune.  Funny, if nothing else!

Wednesday, 29 June 2011

Art Department - Tell me Why (Part I)

Another fantastic tune from their album, a nice melody, the usual male vocals and their distinctive gothic house feel.

Laid Back - Bakerman (Soul Clap Remix)

This is ridiculously cool, I recognise it from somewhere, perhaps Trigger Happy TV?  But made housey thanks to Soul Clap.  Nice, relaxing and slow, with some kind of saxophone or similar over it (I’m not exactly an expert on real instruments).

Tuesday, 28 June 2011

Lee Foss - Keep My Cool

Very much an end of the night song, the track to play in a club if you are trying to calm the crowd down and signal it is time to go home.

Modern Amusement - Cold as Ice (Louie Fresco Remix)

I think the original vocals are originally on a track from Bobby Brown – anyone remember him?  This is very song-like, quite a slow BPM and just sounds really nice.

Maceo Plex - Can't Leave You

I love this, it has a devastating bassline, but also quite a friendly, chirpy house thing going on with some good drums and of course, the obligatory male vocals.  Huge fan of Maceo Plex.

Danny Daze - Your Everything

A nice deep bassline with male vocals, what a shocker – first heard from Jamie Jones, house track with a really good groove to it.  Definitely a favourite, getting many repeat plays from me!

Monday, 27 June 2011

4th Measure Men - 4 You (Maya Jane Coles Remix)

I don’t know much about the artist but I’ve long thought Maya Jane Coles to be the most over-rated person in underground house music scene, but I am slowly starting to appreciate her somewhat, this is the first time I have blogged about her - this is a nice, deep house tune, just does enough for me to be quite a fan of it.

Jamie Jones – Tranquilizer

I really like this, and not just because it repeats the word ‘tranquilizer’ all the way through, I like the blippy ness and the nice bassline.

Guido Schneider meets Jens Bond- Bob And Curly

Its been a couple of months since I listed a minimal track – if I had been doing this blog 5 years ago then every track probably would have been minimal.  This is nice and sparse and just keep grooving along.  Oh when is minimal coming back?

Thursday, 23 June 2011

Duke - So in love with you (GummiHz Edit)

A ridiculously cool track, heard it played by Soul Clap, it has a breaks thing going on with a slow house – and a very recognisable vocal that really should not be cool.

Efdemin - There Will Be Singing (DJ Koze Remix)

Heard this on a couple of DJ sets from Tiefschwarz and Art Department, loved it but no idea what it was for weeks and then I heard Sven play it at fabric and it just sounded amazing – 3 weeks later finally worked out what it is, it has been driving me crazy!  Amazing tune, with this absolutely devastating rolling bassline, some minimal clicks and beats and breaks down suddenly into a really good quote from some film “what is it about art anyway that we give it so much importance…” – this is just absolutely fantastic.  If only I could afford a trip to Ibiza to hear it in Ibiza.

Wednesday, 22 June 2011

Daniel Stefanik - The Silicon Garden

One can tell within seconds of listening that this is on Cocoon, it is quite progressive kind of techno, plenty of little bleeps and moves along nicely.

Risque III - Essence Of A Dream

This is a fantastic sounding house track from 1987 that I have just discovered – it still sounds rather modern as if it could have just been made, though I guess the recent resurgence of Chicago sounds probably has something to do with this.

Tuesday, 21 June 2011

Greg Paulus - Nightime (Crazy P Remix)

A truly superb gentle deep house track with snippets of vocals as per all my favourite tunes seemingly nowadays, this is just sublime.

Robin Ordell - The Show

This is pretty damn excellent, just a really good house groove with some fairly random chatter over it, doesn’t do anything out of the ordinary, just sounds really damn good.

Sadly no Youtube link.  You lose Mr Ordell.

Thursday, 16 June 2011

Ananda Project - Moment Before Dreaming (Idjut Boys Dub)

Something has definitely gone a little wrong in my world with the amount of deep floaty trance-like tunes I am featuring at the moment, this is delicate and floaty – very nice.

Skinnerbox - Purgatory Five

Quite stunning in its simple, gentle sound, a beautiful melodic track with some kind of slightly strange sounding female vocals.  I’m putting it in the genre of deep trance, ha ha!

Wednesday, 15 June 2011

Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts - Promess Lovin'

This is a really pleasant sounding deep house track – I find Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts vary between the average and the lovely – this is the lovely side.

Thugfucker-Disco Gnome (Tale Of Us Remix)

I listed the original many months ago on my top tunes blog but have actually come to prefer this remix after a few listens, very happy, nice and slow with positive sunshine vocals.

Todd Terje – Ragysh

It is official – trance is cool again.  The other track on the same EP as Snooze 4 Love – a huge delightful melodic breakdown, meant for you to put your hands in the air like it is 1997 all over again – ha ha ha!

Tuesday, 14 June 2011

Todd Terje - Snooze 4 Love

Somewhat trance-like it it’s electronic beauty, this is really quite lovely.

Monday, 13 June 2011

Chymera – Curl

Quite fluffy compared to most of the house music I like – a happy piano house thing.  A rarity in my top tunes – enjoy the rareness.

Friday, 10 June 2011

Azari & III - Hungry for the power (Jamie Jones remix)

I just needed to look at the title to list it here.  I decided to listen too, a devastating twisted house remix of one of my favourite tunes of 2010.

Thursday, 9 June 2011

Dinky – Polvo

I am a huge fan of Dinky, this is a nice rolling tech-house tune that just sounds really damn good.

Wednesday, 8 June 2011

Lee Curtiss – Candy

Lee is part of Visionquest, possibly the hottest thing in the underground at the moment, this is quite techy with a nice dark bassline and of course, some male vocals!

Tuesday, 7 June 2011

Maetrik - Crush On Me

Quite lively and upbeat, with various sounds and takes a twist to a darker side quite unexpectedly, very good production.  I can understand why Cocoon signed it.

One of my favourite tunes of 2011 so far - absolutely love it.

Monday, 6 June 2011

Pan-Pot - Captain My Captain (Rodriguez Jr. Remix)

Oh yeah, got to love the rolling bassline on this one captain, this is devastating in a glorious deep dark minimal way, so much going for it, and a tiny hint of trance-like melodies, love it!

Saturday, 4 June 2011

Santos - Primitive Cannible

I loved his previous track, Hold Home, for it's simplicity and repetitiveness, this one is again, simple and repetitive, but it feels that there is a bit more to it, there is a real carnival atmosphere to it - and a whole 11 minutes long in it's Mediterranean beauty.

Thursday, 2 June 2011

The XX - Crystalised (Jamie Jones Booty Mix)

This one has been going around for a while but seems to have surfaced at last, a lovely dreamy floaty remix.

Wednesday, 1 June 2011

Hot Natured - Forward Motion

This is a rather excellent song, chugging slow house of the Jamie Jones variety, with stuttering vocals along the lines of “she got me rocking in a forward motion”.

Thursday, 26 May 2011

Namito - Marathon (Petar Dundov Remix)

This is quite an exceptional piece of electronic music, very uplifting, but quite deep.  Melodic.  Almost trance-like.  Yes, trance is coming back.  Sorry underground but expect to hear more like this.  You might like it (again) one day.

Marco Carola - Question of Time

I am not a huge fan of Marco Carola, I don’t quite get him, but plenty of people do, he does have quite a significant following in the underground.  This however does appeal a lot, very stripped back and plinky-plonk minimal, but it feels nice.

Wednesday, 25 May 2011

DJ Sneak - Babylon Fallin'

DJ Sneak has been around for so long, I remember him from the 90’s house music I used to listen to, and finally his jacking house sound is big in the popular underground again.  This is typical jacking house of his and samples ‘Go’ by Moby.  Very nice, very enjoyable.

Jamie Jones & Art Department- Our Time In Liberty

You’ve probably heard many like this by now if you have been following my blog, but it is good.  Typical sounds of Jamie Jones fused with the typical sounds of Art Department, the whole slightly gothic and slowed down deep bass house sound, with repeated male vocals.

Tuesday, 17 May 2011

Hercules and Love Affair - My House

This is very quirky sounding, but replicating an 80’s house sound in a modern way, I like this a lot, I think it will be very popular, along the lines of popularity of Tensnake’s Coma Cat.  Very well worth a listen.

Melon - Money (Sascha Dive's 15 Minutes Melodrama Remix)

I do like a good 15 minute track, and this is a little gem, just gently floating in the wind kind of minimal, but with enough to be going on for it to be interesting and rather enchanting.

Seth Troxler - Love Bezerker (Ryan Crosson Remix)

I really like this dark techy twisted beat behind this, it has this kind of crunching house feeling.

Monday, 16 May 2011

DJ T. - Burning (Club Mix)

Yet another deep, dark tech-house track with a male vocal, but yet again, it hits the spot.  There is also an Art Department remix but I prefer this one.  I think.

WhoMadeWho - Every Minute Alone (Tale Of Us & Seth Troxler Dub Edit)

This is clearly going to be massive.  Creepy slow house with male vocal, deep bassline, and some guitar in it too, it will tick a lot of boxes for a lot of people.

Thursday, 5 May 2011

Steve Bug - Jack is Back

Steve Bug got me into this whole minimal/underground thing very first, back in 2004 when I stumbled across him at Cocoon in Ibiza.  So I have a lot of respect for him, but his productions are more often misses than hits with me – some I love, but many bore me.  This thankfully is superb, taking the feel of 80’s house into the modern, dark, percussive house sound.

Gotan Project - Panamericana (Michel Cleis Remix)

This is quite a spooky percussive house track, it has a slight edge to it.

Giorgio Moroder – Chase

This is from 1979.  A whole 32 years old.  Giorgio Moroder was miles ahead of his time and a true pioneer.  Full of synths and belonging in the 80’s, this was how electro started, in my opinion anyway.

Gabriel Ananda - Open Up

He produced some real classics at the height of minimal a few years ago.  This is the first thing I have really enjoyed of his since then, it is minimal and it just sounds really good with a simple beat and some plinks and plonks of various kinds.

Darabi - Truckin'

House music but with a slight disco feel to it, very pleasant.

Wednesday, 4 May 2011

Clockwork - It's You Again (Lee Foss meets Robert James in the Art Department Remix)

This is just a bit silly having those 3 on the remix, 3 great discoveries from 2010, spooky Dracula style house music, lovely and dark.

Lee Foss - Pyramid Scheme

I know it has been a couple of weeks since I have added new tunes, apologies, I am back on top of it though and have quite a few discoveries.

Another super track from Lee Foss, slightly more upbeat perhaps than his others, a nice summer house sound albeit with a dark squelchy bassline.

Thursday, 14 April 2011

Ike - The Mojo

This has got quite an old-sounding house beat to it, is slightly dark and has a slightly creepy male vocal to it, very nice…only 5 minutes long though.

Marc Romboy vs. Stephan Bodzin - Miranda (Oliver Huntemann Remix)

Three of my favourite producers involved from around 2008 – not hugely into the dark and techy stuff nowadays but this is really good, albeit sounding like it is from 2008!

Monday, 11 April 2011

Axel Boman - Holy Love

I love this (kind of obvious I guess seeing as I am listing it here), really rather beautiful and melodic vocal house, top stuff.

Lee Foss - Cabin Party

Lee Foss is another one of my best discoveries from 2010, hoping to see him in April all being well.  Nice, slightly melodic slow house with a hint of vocal, very much my favourite sound at the moment.

Soul Clap - Lonely C

Probably the first time I have ever featured a track at just 3 minutes long!  I love most things that Soul Clap do, one of my best discoveries of 2010, such a good warm feeling.  Should be 10 minutes long though.

Art Department feat. Seth Troxler - Living The Life

Art Department with Seth Troxler on the vocals?  I didn’t even need to listen this to know I would list it as a top tune.  Am I getting carried away with the hype?  This is typically slow and dark and quite spooky, plenty of vocals.  Very nice.

Ultra Nate - Free (Ramon Tapia & Kabale und Liebe Remix)

This was quite a surprise when Villalobos played this at fabric the other night after a load of typically repetitive beatless minimal.  Pleasingly underground and minimal without too much of the original

The Muffin Tops - Double Oh Oh (Clement Meyer & Le Loup Remix)

This is slightly sinister but uplifting at the same time, an excellent minimal groove.  Love this, ha ha screw you sunshine and happiness give me some darkness.

N/A - Fables And Fairytales (Deniz Kurtel Remix)

Slightly creepy but overtly beautiful house track.

Jacuzzi Boys & Nils Weimann – Manoi

This is a really nice and quite chilled house track, bits of vocals and bits of percussion, and it just feels really good.

Maceo Plex - Your Style

This is a nice, gentle deep house track, with quiet male vocals and a warm feeling to it.  Much deep house can be boring, but this does have some depth to it and a bit of oompth too.

Gummi hz - High Priest

This is really quite a charming percussive minimal house track with a touch of what seems to me to be African chanting, a very pleasant listen.

Fries & Bridges – Forever This

Such a feel-good vocal house track this, some might even call it funky house – I think I might just call it that, ha ha ha!

Ali Love - Moscow Girl (Lee Foss Remix)

This has a slight 80’s feel to it, with an appealing vocodered vocal – big fan of Lee Foss, one of my best discoveries in 2010.

Storm Queen - Look Right Through

Nice deep dark bassline with male vocals and an 80’s synthesised sound, this is a very cool and groovy house track though it does feel like it could have been made about 25 years ago!

The XX - Cystalised (Jamie Jones' Booty Mix)

Another piece of disco-house beauty from Jamie Jones – The XX are apparently quite well thought of themselves, the lead singer features on another one of my favourites tracks.

Wednesday, 16 March 2011

Matt Star – Knarz

This is possibly the dirtiest filthiest house track I have heard since Solid Groove “This Is Sick” - it really is totally filthy.

Tuesday, 15 March 2011

Russ Yallop - Rock Me

I heard this quite a while ago but only just discovered it, another disco-house gem on Crosstown Rebels, fast becoming one of my favourite labels.

Midnight Magic - Beam Me Up (Jacques Renault Remix)

This is a piece of total disco magic, if it were made in 1979 it would be a total disco classic but no it is from 2010!

Sect - HiFi All Around

Nice, slow and just rather damn hot brooding house track, very now.  Heard Soul Clap playing it.

Christian Burkhardt - Stopover Goa

Takes a little bit of time to get going this one, but when it does, when the funky bassline takes over and the lady shouts "wooooooo!", you just know you have to step up your dancing mood an extra notch.  Slight acid feeling to it but totally groovy, will be huge.  Perfect Cocoon track.

Nicolas Jaar - Come N Get It

I am a big fan of Mr Jaar – doesn’t like to think he makes house music, this is kind of house, lots of piano and a hip-hop feel to it.  Rather cool.

Wednesday, 23 February 2011

Henrik Schwarz / Âme / Dixon - Chicago (Live Version)

This sounds way too much like techno to be from these guys.  But it is an excellent stomper of a Cocoon-style techno tune.

Jacob Korn - I Like The Sun (But Not On)

Sven style techno, I’m sure it has been around for a couple of  years but I’ve only just worked out what it is.  I would love to hear this on a dancefloor…been too long since I have seen Sven (two months is too long!).

Sadly not available on Youtube at the moment.

Deniz Curtel – The L Word

I’ve been wondering what this is for quite a while after hearing it on a few sets from the likes of Seth Troxler – it is a top quality vocal house, I liken the word ‘beautiful’ for it – well worth a listen.  On one of my favourite labels, Crosstown Rebels.

KZA - Le Troublant Acid

I really quite like this, no idea who KZA are, relaxing and chilled house with a feel of disco to it too.  More for summer than winter though!

Nicolas Jaar - The Beach

I'm on fire tonight on my tune searching!  This is a fantastically teasing remix of New Order by a new musical genius.  Excellent stuff.

Dualton - Formula

This is a very pleasant piano house track, perhaps a little too summery for the middle of February...but spring isn't too far away...one can imagine.

Fleetwood Mac - Everywhere (Psychemagik Remix)

Oh yeah - a disco version of a Fleetwood Mac classic.  Happy days!  I honestly never thought I would be writing about Fleetwood Mac.  "I wanna be with you everywhere".

Chris Liebing & Tommy Four Seven Bauhaus (Mallet Mix)

Dark, evil and ongoing techno, perfect for a little anger.  Not that I have anything to be angry about...not even between the hours of 9am and 5pm.  Honest.

Monoloc – Pumpkin

Really quite angry stomping techno, perfect accompaniment for smashing something up…take me back to Hull!  Many years ago I smashed about 20 windows at my school one evening, such was my distaste for the education system.  I wish I had access to such good techno then.

Green Velvet - Flash (Jamie Jones remix)

A techno classic remixed by a man who can do absolutely no wrong, a man very much on the top of my to-see list.  Anyone else would have ruined a classic.  Sinister and slightly ravey.

The Bees - Winter Rose (Nicolas Jaar Remix)

Another masterpiece from Nicolas Jaar, very slow and musical as you would expect…one to drift off to on a beach watching a sunset.

Art Department - I C U

This is much more gentle than their other tracks, a nice vocal house track.  I much prefer Without You though!  Really hope to see Art Department at some point in 2011.

Nina Kraviz - I'm Gonna Get You (Melon's X Rated Version)

I’m a big fan of Nina Kraviz, very nice vocal deep house, and this is another track to add to the growing list.

Stimming & Lazarusman – Change

Not normally a fan of Stimming’s work but this is really quite my cup of tea, very minimal with a deep synthesised melody, almost 5 minutes of the 8 minute track is the breakdown and it has excepts from a speech overlaying it.  Really rather good.

Art Department - Without You (Jamie Jones On The Fly Remix)

Even Jamie Jones cannot improve this track but as the original was my favourite tune of 2010 by quite some way despite how much amazing music there was, then that is no bad thing.  This remix is only 5 minutes long (though I’m not convinced this is a full recording on Youtube) but still very good and distinctive enough from the amazing original.

Pteradactil Disco - Big Ass Biscuit

Slow, groovy with a filthy bassline, being played by one of the hottest new DJs in my opinion, Lee Foss.

Azari & III - Into The Night (Nicolas Jaar Remix)

This is really nice, slightly disco influenced, but still somewhat housey with the talents of Nicolas Jaar on the remix.  Very good.

Seuil - Prostitute (Visionquest Remix)

Would I like this very slow sleepy, jazz-influenced deep house track if it didn’t sing about Jesus being in love with a prostitute and having a big collection of porn to blow your mind?  Quite possibly as it has the magic touch of Seth Troxler and co.  Wrong, but so right.

Thugfucker - Disco Gnome

Deep house can be as dull as dishwater but this is lovely, full of personality and charm, with snippets of vocals hidden inside.

Russ Yallop - I Can't Wait

Not an artist I have heard of, but a really damn groovy and rather bassy slow house track.  With, of course, snippets of vocals.  Love it!  On Crosstown Rebels, one of my favourite labels – home of Art Department!

The XX - Night Time (Greg Wilson version)

Ooh this is quite lovely, nice, floaty and somewhat disco-like.

Escape from New York - Fire in My Heart

Fantastic piece of disco that Craig Richards played at fabric the other weekend, just so warm and groovy, all of 26 years old now, and very sing-alongable.

Marco Faraone, Arado - Strange Neighbors

A really good jacking house tune, perfect for something like Ketoloco.

Friday, 28 January 2011

Michel Cleis – Litoral

Quite possibly on a par with his previous ubiquitous hit ‘La Mezcla’, it is just a good house beat before it explodes into a very Latin percussive style, could and should be absolutely huge.  Certainly livened up a dull afternoon…back to data entry.

Wednesday, 26 January 2011

Levon Vincent - Solemn Days

It is pretty much just a kind of build-up techno track for a driving techno DJ I would say, nothing amazing but I really enjoy it.

Dennis Ferrer - The Red Room (OBJ Vocal Mix)

Dennis Ferrer has consistently put out so much good music, and constantly innovated over the years, and this is a somewhat-techno infused follow up to his previous hit ‘Hey Hey’ though it is more house, it just has the drive of techno, and vocals to match.  Superb track – I knew before I listened to it that I would be listing it.

Tahloula - We Play House (Chris Lattner Remix)

This is very much plodding minimal but with bits of vocals and some good percussive elements – listen if you like minimal.

Florence and The Machine - Rabbit Heart (Leo Zero Remix)

I am a little surprised that I am listing this as they are clearly a band and I have heard non underground house people talk about them, but this is quite dancey and quite refreshing.  Not sure I’ll listen to it often but I like it and I suspect others may like it more?

Marc Houle – Seeing In The Dark

Firstly, apologies that I have been slack recently - I'm going to make up for it the next couple of weeks!

Very dark, very minimal with evil rolling basslines, perfect for m-nus, perfect to growl at.
